Step into the city's rich history, with a trip to Edinburgh Castle!
Explore Edinburgh Castle with a small group of other Napier students and learn about exciting tales of its time as a military fortress, royal residence and prison of war. When you climb Castle Hill, you will walk in the footsteps of soldiers, kings and queens – and even the odd pirate or two.
There is a cafe on site for refreshments and a gift shop if you wish to buy a souvenir.
Tickets: £23.50
Time: 3PM on Friday 11 September
Duration: approximately 2 hours, but you may leave early or stay longer if you wish
Meeting point: We will meet by the entrance of the castle. The What3Words for the location is ///moves.yards.repair.
Bag restrictions: For reasons of ease of movement, visitor safety and general security, suitcases and large rucksacks (30L or over) are not permitted in the castle. There is NO luggage storage on site. There may be bag searches at the castle entrance for security reasons.
Accessibility:
Physical accessibility: The castle is reached across the esplanade - a wide area of smooth tarmac, with an uphill gradient of 5 degrees. The esplanade is 110m long.
Accessible Bathrooms: Upon entering the castle, there is a set of adapted toilets to your left, and the ticket office to your right - both reached over an uneven cobbled surface. An adapted toilet is also available in Crown Square - it is in the corridor between the Great Hall and Crown Gift Shop near the lift.
Audio Guides: An audio guide is available to hire from the audio booth just after the portcullis gate (where your entrance tickets are scanned) for a small fee.
Printed Guide: Print versions of the audio guide are available in both large print and Open Dyslexic large print. These are also available to download onto your own device. Please ask a member of staff at the audio booth for a copy.
Parking: Castle Terrace NCP is the nearest car park.
Neurodivergence & Sensory support: there is a visual guide shared by the Castle to prepare for your visit. https://www.edinburghcastle.scot/media/litnqpcr/edinburgh-castle-visual-story-adult.pdf. There are also Sensory backpacks available to borrow from the ticket office. These contain lots of sensory aids including ear plugs, tactile toys, sunglasses, binoculars, a wind-up torch, a sand timer and a sensory map. Ear defenders are also available from staff.
Assistance Dogs: Only assistance dogs are permitted, including within roofed areas. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and not left unattended at any time in the castle or vehicles. Owners must pick up after dogs.
